The smell of coffee tickled to lift me out of the coziness of my bed. The songs and the mantras praising the lord emanating from the temple speakers echoed pleasantly in my ears. The fragrance of flowers filled my nostrils leaving me in a dreamy world unknown to me.
This was a refreshing escape frm the cacophonous and mechanical life accustomed to me in the city. Life seemed to have come to a standstill or at least lost its momentum. Time appeared to be in my command. Every breath that I took here revitalized and rejuvenated me. The freakiness to meet the deadlines and working late hours seemed meaningless when confronted with the calm, serene & congenial conditions of this village.
As rustic it seems from exterior, its captivating beauty enthralls my urban soul. The glittering water of the canal that flows alongside the village adorned with shady Mango trees & tall Palm trees stretching along its length is a treat to watch & to take a leisurely walk along the pavements. An old dilapidated bridge hanging across the canal on the strings thrills me as I cross it walking on the wooden planks that creak with every step I take but bears my burden to help me get to the other side. The excitement of swimming in this water or a dive from the leaning branches of the Mango trees could never be matched by any swimming pools on earth. Sitting perched on the banks munching on the homemade delicacies while fishing is a treatise to the mind and body. The green pastures sway my heart as if the damsels in the field dressed in green are dancing in volition to the magical tunes of the breeze blowing across them. The tranquilizing effect of nature relieves the stress and nurtures my soul. Watching ripe fruits on trees excite and itch me to climb and taste them. Such sights are so incongruous to metropolis where concretes have taken their place to accommodate the growing influx of people into those overly<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Besides the natural beauty, it is the ingenuousness and hospitality of its habitants that overwhelm me. It is the folks of the village who make life more colorful with their traditional attire and heart warming smiles. Although, the houses are spread far and wide from each other, everyone seems to know others like themselves. How much do I know of my immediate next door neighbors in the city? I wonder !!! Ironically, do I at least recognize my neighbors?
Here still persists reminiscence of old days thatched huts alonside modern duplex homes with open terraces whose uncovered roofs shine with twinkling stars in the night.
PNK is not just another beautiful village but rich in tradition, culture and education. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Sri Ganesar High School and College is considered one among the best educational institutions in the district with large playground, well-equipped amenities and hostel facilities for long distance students. Furthermore, it is surrounded with the graces of deity's that protect, guide and groom its habitants. Mandramurthy swamy is facing the street, Padakarai swamy guarding the village and other Gods & Goddesses showering their blessings with knowledge, peace, growth, good health & prosperity. During Kovil kodai, the village seems soaked in festival mood. Most of its residents who have migrated to cities for work & business make their appearance on this occasion. The streets are well lighted with artificial lights. Various programs like Karagattam, orchestra etc. are organized throught the day & night. Movies are relayed thru projector on the screen. The atmosphere seems charged up with enthusiasm of being in PNK with the near and dear ones with whom they have missed contacts due to their hectic city life schedule. It is a blissful experience to witness the pooja & other rituals performed in the temple. The beating of drums and the sound of Nadaswaram is so enchanting that it makes one feel close to HIM.

If Mumbai makes a dream come true, then PNK is where you dream.

A New Angel in P.N.K

I am your little angel
and I'm sent from far away
To cheer you up if you are sad
or had a rotten day.

So when you find a home for me
make sure that it is near,
For when you to need to talk things out
I can lend an ear.

I'm here to make you smile
when you feel a little blue,
Just look into my eyes
and I'll smile right back at you.

Or when your feeling lonely,
and no one seems to care,
Remember angels do,
and we are everywhere.

If you are scared and don't feel safe,
and don't know what to do,
talk to me
and I will get you through.

Now find that special place for me
deep inside your heart,
And I will always be there for you
no matter how far apart.

India

What do you think about powai, mumbai, India
